Blog Post #50

Yes, because they would help her complete her plan without knowing it.

Blog Post #51

No, Tally won't regret coming clean. David will probably realize it's her fault Az is dead sooner or later.

Blog Post #50

No, she shouldn't have. It is not right to make somebody do something experimental.

Blog Post #49

I would get the cure if I knew about the lesions so I could think for myself.

Blog Post #48

"Tally thought of the legions on Shay's brain, the tiny cancers or wounds or whatever they are that she didn't even know she had. They were in there somewhere changing her friend's thoughts , warping her feelings, gnawing at the roots of who she was."

This quote tells how ashamed Tally is and how clueless Shay is about the illness.

Blog Post #47

  1. Shay is pretty
  2. they break out the smokies
  3. they escape to the roof

The kicker at the end is that Az died.

"Radiology. Neurology. Magnetic Imaging,"she read softly. "Operating Theater Two."
They have a meaning to the story because that is where they figure out how to change people's minds.

The interrogation rooms are for torturing information out of people. The isolation room is to keep people in solitary confinement as punishment. The disorientation room is to make them forget.

"She was tall and elegant, every feature perfection."

Blog Post #45

Live life to the fullest.
I would say that message to tell people to live life to the fullest.

Blog Post #44

Tally has become more serious. She because of going to the Smoke and been threatened by specials.

Blog Post #43

Yes, Tally's plan will work. Tally feels bad about being a spy and wants to help save David's parents. Tally's feelings are real.

Blog Post #42

They describe Rusties as the idiotic, dangerous, and comic force of history. It is not accurate for some people, but some others are the exact way they described.

Our weakness is oil and fighting wars over religion.

THe weakness of their society is depending on becoming pretty.

The September 11 attacks (often referred to as September 11th or 9/11) were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by al-Qaeda upon the United States on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners.[1][2] The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Pennsylvania after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington, D.C. There were no survivors from any of the flights.

Tally saved those magazines but every book would've been saved if she hadn't come there in the first place.

Blog Post #39

Tally did escape in an amazing way, but she doesn't deserve the praise. She still betrayed them even if she didn't mean to.

Blog Post #38

The voice in the dark is David, who is a friend to Tally. I think David will figure out a way further into the cave to hide.

Blog Post #37

Self preservation means trying to keep yourself in high esteem to other people. It is kind of selfish and not the most important thing. I wouldn't lie because of it.

Blog Post #36

I think Tally is still with the smokies. Tally will still probably have to have the operation though.

Blog Post #35

No, I don't think this is the climax. I think the climax was when Tally ran away.

Blog Post #34

"What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful."

My mom is beautiful because she is nice. There is somebody that is funny and serious at the right times which makes that person beautiful.

Blog Post #33

"Becoming pretty doesn't just change the way you look... it changes the way you think."

It means it basically hypnotizes you. You wouldn't have any flaws but you wouldn't think for yourself.

Blog Post #32

"But you do know about genetics don't you?Sure I know about genes. I knew two sisters, uglies, who looked almost the same. But parents and children? That's just weird."

The operation takes away any resemblance to family and makes everybody look alike.

I think being pretty is being completely flawless compared to an average standard.

Blog Post #31

I-"They walked through the Smoke, past cook fires being extinguished with shovelfuls of dirt; windows coming alight with candles and electric bulbs; and a handful of young uglies pursuing an escaped chicken." p.248

P-"Only a couple of weeks later she was much more used to all the different kinds of faces age created." p.244

S-"Dr.Cable's pendant seemed to grow heavier and heavier, wound around her neck as tightly as the vines, brush, and roots grasping the railroad tracks." p.243

It does require bravery to meet David's parents because Tally is about to ruin their whole life.

Blog Post #30

Shay does have a right to be jealous of Tally. Shay has had a crush on David for years and Tally just showed up and David starts hitting on her.

When my family moved, I got the TV put in my room. It made my brother jealous. It meant my parents trusted me.

Blog Post #29

It would have been easier to activate it when she first got there because she wouldn't have come to think of the people there as friends.

Blog Post #28

They ran away to stop making people pretty and to find a cure for the lesions.
"They reversed the operation?"

Blog Post #26

"Kind of like a professional pretty. I guess when everyone else is ugly, being pretty is sort of, like, your job."

Shay is not completely right, but not wrong either.Models are paid to be what no one else is, so for not knowing everything about our time, she made a good guess.

They were right about how some girls would starve themselves to look pretty. What they didn't think about was how girls in our time didn't have the operation to make themselves pretty and they thought the only thing to do was to not eat.

David

  • smart

  • ugly

  • born in Smoke

  • likes Tally

I think the looks sort of post-apocalyptic because the people there are struggling to survive. I think they refer to the Smoke as the Smoke because there is always fog and smoke there and because it is hard to locate.

Blog Post #24

  1. the bug-eyed people pull Tally to shore
  2. they put her on the helicopter and give her oxygen
  3. they turn out to be pretties that are burning a kind of flower that kills everything around it

4.they drop her off at the "bald head" and the smokies come to pick her up

"...Tally was stuck out here in the wild forever. Ugly for life. Her only way home was to betray her friend."

Tally is having trouble deciding if she should do the right thing or not. She realizes how serious her situation is and what is going to happen to her if the plan fails.

P-"Tally caught the glimmer of the river through the smoke, but the heat pushed her back."

I-"The brittle stems of flowers crunched under her shoes, and the heat coming off the scorched earth stung her eyes."

S-"At first there was a sound like a roaring wind in her dreams."

Blog Post #22

The flying machine was a hovercraft. I think the specials were inside and checking on Tally's progress.

Yes, there are always projects and homework. No matter where you go, there will always have to do things you don't want to do.

Tally will live and continue down the river.

THe sky is really clear and the water is really blue. There is a really ugly bouy that is "uglyfying" the picture.
